About this wine

Bartolo Mascarello’s Barolo is a benchmark for traditionally made Nebbiolo, blending plots from Cannubi, San Lorenzo, Rué and Rocche dell’Annunziata into a single cuvée. The 2009 vintage delivers generous ripe fruit from the warm year, but the wine remains wonderfully poised, with notes of dried roses, tar, cherry and orange peel framed by fine, chalky tannins. Long élévage in large Slavonian botti gives a seamless texture and savoury, earthy complexity. Now entering a perfect plateau of drinkability, this bottle is both a piece of Barolo history and a deeply satisfying fine wine.

Tasting Note

Larner describes a generous but refined Barolo with ripe red cherry and plum, accented by rose, leather and tar. The palate is full yet balanced, with tannins that are authoritative but polished and a long, savoury, mineral-tinged finish.

In the glass

Pale garnet with brick/orange rim.

In the nose

Dried rose, tar, sour cherry, hints of leather and orange zest.

On the palate

Silky, savoury and layered, with sweet–sour red fruit, fine dusty tannins and long, balsamic length.

Bartolo Mascarello

A guardian of tradition in Barolo. Bartolo Mascarello keeps the classic blend of vineyards, long macerations, and slow aging in large casks. No shortcuts, no cru bottlings, just pure Nebbiolo with depth, perfume, and harmony.
