About this wine

Monprivato is one of Barolo’s great monopole crus, and Giuseppe Mascarello vinifies it in an ultra-traditional style. The 2011 vintage offers abundant dark cherry and plum fruit, with notes of pipe tobacco, licorice and cola adding complexity. On the palate the wine is elegant rather than massive, with sweet fruit framed by firm but not rustic tannins and a hint of tartness that keeps the finish fresh. It shows the vineyard’s capacity to deliver depth and nuance even in a warmer year, and will continue to evolve with further bottle age.

Giuseppe Mascarello

An essential name in Barolo and the longtime steward of Monprivato, one of the Langhe’s great vineyards. Giuseppe Mascarello produces classically crafted Barolo: long fermentations, large casks, and a focus on finesse over force. Monprivato stands out for its perfume, detail, and longevity, offering a pure expression of terroir with remarkable balance.
