About this wine

Vigna Rionda is often cited as the quintessential Serralunga site, and Massolino is one of its reference producers. The 2017 Riserva shows a luminous garnet colour and an intricate bouquet of rose, violet, red and black cherry, orange rind, licorice, tar and crushed rock. The palate is powerful yet incredibly refined: dense, sweet-core fruit, layered spice and a firm, chalk-dust tannic frame that stretches into a very long, savoury finish. This is a wine for the cellar, but already mesmerizing in its aromatics.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate praises its purity of fruit, depth and finely chiselled structure, noting rose, cherry, blood orange, spice and a persistent mineral backbone, and calls it one of the standout wines of the vintage.

In the glass

Bright garnet, medium depth, very refined rim.

In the nose

Rose, violet, cherry, orange zest, licorice, tar, wet stone.

On the palate

Full yet lifted, layered fruit, firm chalky tannins, endlessly long.

Massolino

Massolino is a cornerstone estate in Serralunga, combining traditional Barolo virtues with a polished, accessible style. From Barolo Classico to crus like Margheria, Parafada and Vigna Rionda, the wines show depth, savoury complexity and the powerful tannic backbone typical of the village. Their broader range – from Dolcetto to Moscato – is crafted with the same precision and reliability.
