About this wine

Les Suchots is one of Vosne-Romanée’s most distinguished Premier Crus, lying between some of the Côte de Nuits’ greatest grand cru vineyards. Mongeard-Mugneret works a small 0.224-hectare parcel at around 265 metres altitude, planted to Pinot Noir averaging approximately 57 years old on limestone over a stony, marly subsoil. Grapes are harvested entirely by hand and carefully sorted, while the percentage of destemming is adjusted according to fruit quality. The resulting wine has the seductive perfume expected from Vosne, combining ripe red berries, flowers, spice and licorice with fine tannins and a long, silky, velvety finish.

Tasting Note

James Suckling highlights ripe red berries, raspberry, hibiscus and rose, while the domaine describes spice, ripe fruit and licorice over a silky palate of fine tannins and exceptional length.

In the glass

Deep ruby to garnet-red.

In the nose

Raspberry, ripe red berries, rose, hibiscus, exotic spice and licorice.

On the palate

Silky and velvety, with ripe fruit, fine delicate tannins, layered spice and a long, elegant finish.

Mongeard-Mugneret

Mongeard-Mugneret is a long-established Vosne-Romanée family domaine farming an enviable mosaic of village, premier and grand cru sites. Their style is generous and textural, often with a slightly more opulent, spicy expression of Pinot Noir. The wines are approachable in youth yet have enough structure to evolve gracefully in the cellar.
