About this wine

Le Pergole Torte 2021 comes from Montevertine’s oldest Sangiovese vines in Radda in Chianti. The wine bursts with black cherry, sour cherry, rose, black truffle and forest floor, underpinned by subtle spice and tobacco. It is rich yet wonderfully transparent, with extremely fine tannins and vibrant acidity giving a long, precise, almost weightless finish.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate calls it beautifully saturated and complex but not heavy, with bright red cherry and silky tannins; James Suckling praises its black cherry, truffle, earth notes and “essence of Sangiovese” purity.

In the glass

Bright, deep ruby with a slightly transparent rim.

In the nose

Black and sour cherry, rose, truffle, herbs and fine spice.

On the palate

Medium-bodied but intense, with ultra-fine tannins, pure fruit and a very long, savoury, mineral finish.

Montevertine

A purist’s view of Sangiovese. Montevertine works outside the Chianti Classico DOCG to preserve its own identity: long macerations, old casks, and a focus on finesse. The wines, especially Pergole Torte, are lifted, aromatic, and timeless. A reference point for elegant, traditional Tuscan reds.
