About this wine

Muraje is a small, highly regarded producer working old terraces in the Carema DOC at the foothills of the Alps. Patlù is their core Carema bottling, from steep, pergola-trained Nebbiolo. The 2020 vintage yields a pale ruby wine with aromas of wild strawberry, cranberry, alpine herbs, rose and crushed stone, plus a touch of spice. The palate is taut and vertical rather than rich, with high acidity, fine but insistent tannins and a saline, almost smoky mineral finish – think a mountain cousin of traditional Barolo, but lighter.

Tasting Note

Critics descriptions emphasise red berries, herbs, flowers and a very mineral, savoury palate with fine, persistent tannins.

In the glass

Pale to medium ruby with an orange-tinged rim.

In the nose

Wild strawberry, cranberry, rose, herbs, wet stone.

On the palate

Light- to medium-bodied, high acid, fine but gripping tannins, very mineral.

Muraje

Muraje is a tiny, highly artisanal project in Carema, working steep, terraced vineyards at the northern edge of Piedmont. The focus is on pure, high-altitude Nebbiolo that’s pale, aromatic and wonderfully tense, more about perfume and minerality than weight. Low intervention in the cellar lets the mountain character shine through.
