About this wine

Château Musar 2018 continues the Hochar family’s tradition of long-aged, distinctive reds from the Bekaa Valley. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan from old, low-yielding vines gives an aromatic profile of red and black fruit, dried fig, spice, leather and earth. On the palate the wine is medium-plus bodied with a combination of sweet fruit, savoury complexity and gentle tannin, with the slightly oxidative, lifted character that defines Musar. It’s a wine for adventurous palates and for the table, pairing beautifully with game, lamb and spiced dishes.

Tasting Note

In recent reviews of Musar’s recent vintages, James Suckling highlights their pristine, lifted style, with notes of red fruit, herbs and subtle oxidative nuttiness, carried by fine tannins and bright acidity into a long, savoury finish; 2018 follows that same classical profile.

In the glass

Medium garnet with a brick-tinged rim.

In the nose

Red cherry, plum and dried fig with leather, spice, forest floor and a hint of volatile lift.

On the palate

Silky and savoury, with mature red fruit, dried herbs, fine tannins and a gentle, autumnal finish.

Chateau Musar

Château Musar is one of the world’s most singular estates, crafting long-lived, characterful wines in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. Organic farming, minimal intervention and long aging create reds and whites that are aromatic, often wild and always distinctive. With dried fruit, spice, savoury notes and great longevity, Musar has become a cult classic.
