About this wine

Planetes Carinyena Blanca rehabilitates the almost-forgotten white Carignan variety, from a <1-ha biodynamic vineyard planted about 25 years ago on slate at 350–400 m. The 2024 continues the new direction introduced in 2023: shorter or no skin contact, native-yeast fermentation and ageing split between old barrels and concrete eggs, aiming for purity over funk. Expect pear, quince, fennel, pollen and wet stone rather than overt oak, with a chalky, salty, almost Riesling-like cut. It’s a gastronomic white that will benefit from decanting and a large glass.

Tasting Note

Gutiérrez describes the 2023 as more expressive and floral after dropping extended skin contact, with deep flavours, a pungent, mineral palate and a finely etched, chalky texture – a good guide to what to expect from 2024.

In the glass

Medium straw with green glints.

In the nose

Pear, quince, lemon peel, fennel, pollen, chamomile and crushed slate.

On the palate

Textured yet taut; stone fruit and citrus peel over a salty, chalk-lined structure, with firm acidity and a long, savoury, mineral finish.

Familia Nin Ortiz

Família Nin-Ortiz farms steep, high-altitude vineyards in Priorat biodynamically, focusing on old-vine Garnacha and Carinyena. The wines are intense yet incredibly detailed, with pure fruit, wild herbs and a striking mineral core from their slate and clay soils. They are among the most refined, terroir-driven expressions of modern Priorat.
