About this wine

This bottling is a terroir “out-of-home-village” project: 100% Meunier from the single parcel Les Cayons in Oeuilly, with fruit entirely from 2017. The site is described as sitting on friable chalk, and the wine is made with minimal intervention—unfined/unfiltered base wine, secondary fermentation started with natural grape must, and oak élevage. Disgorged March 2023 after close to five years on lees, it’s a serious, dry, vinous Champagne that shines with food (shellfish, poultry, cream-based dishes).

Tasting Note

Cru d’Origine Meunier of notable savoury detail: ripe pear, orange pith, dried herbs and gentle spice over a stony base. Concentrated yet bright, with a firm, gastronomic finish that feels built for the table.

In the glass

Straw-gold; fine mousse, more “vinous” than overtly fruity.

In the nose

Chalk dust, yellow fruit, and subtle brioche.

On the palate

Dry, mineral, and layered; long lees aging gives depth without heaviness.

Nowack

A historic Vandières family in the Vallée de la Marne, with the contemporary project driven by Flavien Nowack, who has pushed the domaine toward a more terroir-explicit, parcel-by-parcel approach. The house is widely associated with Meunier and a low-intervention philosophy, with multiple bottlings built around single lieux-dits and site expression, alongside a firm commitment to organic/biodynamic practice in trade materials.
