About this wine

“Mirando al Sur” is Olivier Rivière’s homage to biologically aged wines: 100% Viura from Rioja, fermented and aged in old Sherry butts under a veil of flor. The result is a deep yellow wine with aromas of dried citrus peel, chamomile, almonds, herbs and subtle oxidative notes reminiscent of Manzanilla. The palate is robust yet razor-sharp, with high acidity, savoury, saline flavours and a long, nutty, bone-dry finish. It’s one of the most distinctive white Riojas on the market and a brilliant food wine for seafood and umami-rich dishes.

Tasting Note

Critic: saline nose with dried lemon peel, raw almond and a hint of old Manzanilla; an austere, electric palate with cutting acidity, flavours of dried fruits, beeswax and flowers, and a very long, tense finish.

Herbal and saline with notes of Sherry-like flor, dried citrus peel, nuts and dried flowers.

Bone-dry, high-acid and savoury with oxidative nutty complexity, citrus rind and a very long, salty finish.

Olivier Riviere

Burgundy-born Olivier Rivière crafts terroir-focused wines in Rioja and neighbouring regions, often from organic or biodynamic vineyards. His style is fresh, perfumed and relatively low in extraction, highlighting site and finesse over oak and ripeness. The wines feel artisanal, elegant and distinctly Burgundian in spirit.
