About this wine

The 2000 Oremus 5 Puttonyos comes from what the estate itself calls one of its most memorable vintages. Now in a gorgeous mature phase, it shows layers of dried apricot, quince, orange peel, honey, caramel and spice, underpinned by botrytis notes (saffron, tea) and a volcanic mineral core. The palate is rich and unctuous yet not heavy, thanks to high natural acidity, with a complex, endlessly persistent finish.

Tasting Note

Neal Martin’s Wine Advocate review describes the 2000 as a long, rounded Tokaji with intense honeyed apricot and marmalade fruit, fine botrytis complexity and lively acidity, concluding that it is a textbook 5 Puttonyos with excellent ageing potential.

In the glass

Deep golden-amber with thick legs.

In the nose

Dried apricot, orange marmalade, honey and caramel with tea, saffron and dried flowers.

On the palate

Lusciously sweet yet vibrant, with concentrated dried fruit and honey, lively acidity and a long, spice- and mineral-inflected finish.

Oremus

Oremus is Vega Sicilia’s Tokaj outpost, combining Spanish resources with one of the world’s great sweet-wine terroirs. The estate produces everything from classic Aszú to late-harvest and dry Furmint, all marked by vibrant acidity, layered botrytis complexity and faultless balance. The style is polished but deeply rooted in Tokaj tradition, with a clear emphasis on purity and age-worthiness.
