About this wine

Château Palmer’s 2005 marries the opulence of a ripe vintage with the estate’s hallmark perfume and finesse. The blend, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, delivers intense blackberry, cassis and plum fruit layered with licorice, violets, cocoa and fine cedar spice. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied, with a glycerol texture, polished tannins and a very long, floral finish. It is one of the most celebrated Palmers of the modern era and still has a long life ahead.

Tasting Note

Parker describes 2005 Palmer as densely coloured and aromatically explosive, with soaring notes of blackberry, plum and spring flowers, a multi-layered, medium-to-full-bodied palate and a pure, long, first-growth-like finish.

In the glass

Deep ruby with garnet hints, very fine legs.

In the nose

Blackberry, cassis, dark plum, violet, cocoa, cigar box.

On the palate

Supple yet structured, with sweet black fruit, fine tannins and a long, perfumed, mineral-tinged finish.

Château Palmer

Château Palmer is a Third Growth in name but a true “super-second” in reputation, known for its sensual, Merlot-rich Margaux. Old vines, biodynamic farming and small-scale vinifications deliver wines that combine hedonistic texture with Margaux’s hallmark perfume and finesse. Its second label, Alter Ego, offers a more approachable yet still complex expression of this singular estate.
