About this wine

Alter Ego is not a “lesser” Palmer but a separate cuvée focusing on fruit purity and earlier drinkability. In 2010 it shows ripe black and red fruits, floral notes and sweet spice on a medium-plus body with finely grained tannins. The wine captures the freshness and structure of the vintage but is already harmonious, making it an excellent way to access the estate’s style while the grand vin sleeps in the cellar.

Tasting Note

Leading critics describe the 2010 Alter Ego as fragrant and pure, with blackcurrant and raspberry fruit, floral overtones, juicy acidity and polished tannins that give a long, graceful finish.

In the glass

Bright deep ruby.

In the nose

Blackcurrant, raspberry, violet, graphite, gentle oak spice.

On the palate

Medium-plus body, fresh and supple with fine tannins and a pure, cassis-driven finish.

Château Palmer

Château Palmer is a Third Growth in name but a true “super-second” in reputation, known for its sensual, Merlot-rich Margaux. Old vines, biodynamic farming and small-scale vinifications deliver wines that combine hedonistic texture with Margaux’s hallmark perfume and finesse. Its second label, Alter Ego, offers a more approachable yet still complex expression of this singular estate.

Vinification

Selected plots vinified separately in vats, then aged around 18 months in French barriques with a lower proportion of new oak than the grand vin.
