About this wine

PYCM’s Bâtard-Montrachet comes from very old vines and is vinified with his trademark precision: whole-bunch pressing, long, cool fermentations and élevage in carefully chosen barrels. The 2018 shows explosive aromas of ripe citrus, white peach and pear, mingled with hazelnut, smoke, flint and struck-match reduction. The palate is hugely concentrated yet balanced, with a core of saline minerality and vibrant acidity that cuts through the richness. It’s an epic, tightly coiled Grand Cru that will improve for many years.

Tasting Note

Critic summaries (WA / Vinous, paraphrased): highlight intense citrus and stone fruit, powerful structure, prominent but high-quality oak and a long, salty, chiselled finish, marking this as one of the top white Burgundies of the vintage.

In the glass

Pale to medium gold, with pronounced viscosity.

In the nose

Lemon oil, white peach, pear, flint, smoke and toasted hazelnut.

On the palate

Full-bodied and deep, with great concentration, electric acidity, dense fruit and a long, saline, smoky finish.

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is one of the leading names in modern white Burgundy, renowned for precise, chiselled and deeply mineral Chardonnays. Low yields, careful pressing, minimal bâtonnage and extended lees aging create wines of tension and energy rather than overt richness. From village Meursault to grands crus like Bâtard-Montrachet, they are built for both intellectual pleasure and long-term aging.
