About this wine

Rapet’s Corton Grand Cru 2012 comes from 50-year-old Pinot Noir vines on the upper slopes of Aloxe-Corton, in climats such as Corton Combes and Les Chaumes, where thin, limestone-rich soils give both power and minerality. Grapes are hand-picked into small crates, sorted, then fermented around two weeks with cap-punching to extract colour and fine tannins, before ageing in oak barrels with about 20% new oak. The 2012 vintage delivers an expressive bouquet of cherries, violets and subtle spice, with an undercurrent of earth and mineral tones. On the palate it’s full, structured and yet silky, with ripe tannins, lively acidity and a long, sapid finish that shows both fruit purity and savoury depth. A serious, ageworthy Corton that works brilliantly with duck, venison, or richly sauced dishes.

Tasting Note

Aromas of ripe dark cherry, raspberry, violet and a hint of dried rose are framed by subtle oak spice and earth. The palate is medium-plus to full-bodied with concentrated red and black fruit, fine but persistent tannins, bright acidity and a long finish where cherry, spice and a stony, mineral edge echo together.

In the glass

Bright, deep ruby-garnet with good concentration.

In the nose

Ripe cherry and black raspberry with violets, sweet spice and a touch of earth and mineral.

On the palate

Structured yet refined; layers of red and black fruit, florals and spice over firm, fine tannins and fresh acidity, finishing long and savoury-mineral.

Domaine Rapet Père & Fils

Based in Pernand-Vergelesses, Domaine Rapet is one of the historic names around the hill of Corton. They produce both red and white wines with a cool, stony edge that reflects their high, limestone-rich slopes. The style is restrained and gastronomic, with an emphasis on freshness, chalky minerality and age-worthy structure.
