About this wine

The Gran Reserva is produced from old vines in top sites, mainly Tempranillo with small percentages of other local varieties. After meticulous hand harvesting and sorting (including the producer’s well-known “shoulder vs. tip” selection of grapes), the wine is fermented and then aged for a long period in high-quality oak, followed by extended bottle ageing before release as Gran Reserva. The 2015, from a ripe but balanced vintage, shows both richness and freshness: dark berry fruit, liquorice, balsamic and tobacco notes and fine, resolved tannins.

Tasting Note

Critics describe a complex, evolved nose of black fruits, sweet spice, leather and cigar box, with a medium- to full-bodied palate, lively acidity and long, silky, slightly savoury finish.

In the glass

Deep garnet-ruby with slight bricking at the rim.

In the nose

Black cherry and blackberry, dried fig, liquorice, balsamic notes, cedar, leather and cigar box.

On the palate

Medium- to full-bodied, with mature dark fruit, spice and balsamic complexity, fine resolved tannins, bright acidity and a long, savoury, gently tertiary finish.

Remírez de Ganuza

Remírez de Ganuza is a high-precision estate in Rioja Alavesa, famous for strict grape selection and technical rigor. They separate shoulders and tips of bunches, use carefully chosen new oak and bottle only when the wine is ready, resulting in dense, glossy yet impeccably balanced Riojas. The style is modern, luxurious and built for the long term.
