About this wine

Olagar Blanco Gran Reserva 2017 is one of the most extraordinary white wines of Spain, an uncompromising expression of Rioja’s forgotten white grandeur, interpreted through Remírez de Ganuza’s legendary precision. Produced only in tiny quantities from very old vines, this is a white wine conceived with the structure, discipline and longevity of a great red.

The wine opens with layered aromas of ripe pear, quince and baked apple, interwoven with saffron, almond, fine smoke and subtle toasted wood. On the palate, it is powerful yet sculpted, combining rich extract with vibrant acidity and profound mineral tension. Long, saline and quietly authoritative, this is a white Rioja for serious collectors. Built to evolve for decades.

Tasting Note

Bright gold in the glass, Olagar Blanco 2017 reveals an intensely layered nose of baked apple, quince, pear skin and lemon oil, wrapped in notes of toasted almond, saffron, vanilla bean and delicate smoke. On the palate, it is broad, powerful and impeccably structured, with rich glyceric texture balanced by firm, driving acidity. Flavors of citrus peel, orchard fruit, spice and wet stone unfold slowly, finishing long, saline and profoundly mineral. A white wine of true authority and rare longevity.

In the glass

Bright golden yellow with amber reflections.

In the nose

Baked apple, quince and ripe pear, layered with toasted almond, vanilla, saffron, subtle smoke and wet stone minerality.

On the palate

Powerful and full-bodied with a rich texture balanced by firm, driving acidity. Concentrated orchard fruit, citrus peel, fine oak spice and saline minerality lead into a long, authoritative and age-worthy finish.

Remírez de Ganuza

Remírez de Ganuza is a high-precision estate in Rioja Alavesa, famous for strict grape selection and technical rigor. They separate shoulders and tips of bunches, use carefully chosen new oak and bottle only when the wine is ready, resulting in dense, glossy yet impeccably balanced Riojas. The style is modern, luxurious and built for the long term.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels, followed by extended aging on the lees with bâtonnage. The wine then rests for many years before release, allowing oak, fruit and structure to fully integrate.
