About this wine

Rosa di Mercatale is Ridolfi’s playful yet artisanal rosato, produced from Sangiovese grown on the north-east slopes of Montalcino at about 300 metres. The wine is made by double fermentation: the first like a white wine with just a brief two-hour maceration, the second refermentation in bottle without disgorgement, leaving a light natural sediment and a gently cloudy appearance. Expect a pale salmon-pink colour, delicate bead and aromas of wild strawberry, cherry and small red berries with a faint herbal touch. On the palate it’s dry, very fresh and lightly creamy, with bright acidity, a fine, tactile sparkle and a mouth-watering bitter twist on the finish.

Tasting Note

Falstaff rated the 2022 Rosa di Mercatale 90 points, highlighting its Sangiovese character, fresh red-berry fruit and lively, crisp palate; the 2024 follows the same style and winemaking approach.

In the glass

Slightly hazy, pale salmon-pink with a fine, gentle mousse.

In the nose

Wild strawberry, sour cherry, small red berries and a light herbal / floral note.

On the palate

Dry, very fresh and crunchy, with delicate bubbles, juicy red-fruit flavours and a clean, lightly bitter and saline finish.

Ridolfi

Ridolfi is an up-and-coming estate in Montalcino, making detailed, vibrant expressions of Sangiovese from high-altitude vineyards. Their Brunello and single-vine bottlings blend ripe Tuscan fruit with freshness, refined tannins and judicious oak. The style leans toward elegance and clarity rather than sheer power.
