About this wine

Gallina is one of Neive’s warmest, most textural crus, and Roagna’s 2016 bottling shows the site’s generosity within a firmly traditional frame. The bouquet mixes rose, red berries, menthol and sweet spice with a subtle balsamic edge. The palate is intense yet tightly woven, with Marasca cherry, orange zest and licorice balanced by chalky, mouth-coating tannins and bright acidity. This is a wine that will unfold over a decade or more, ideal for Nebbiolo fans who enjoy depth and grip.

Tasting Note

Wine Enthusiast notes aromas of rose, red berry, star anise and menthol, leading to flavours of tart cherry, orange zest and licorice, framed by firm, close-grained tannins and fresh acidity.

In the glass

Bright garnet, medium depth, slight brick at the rim.

In the nose

Rose, red cherry, anise, menthol and a hint of balsamic/herbal lift.

On the palate

Tense red fruit, citrus peel and licorice with firm, chalky tannins and a long, savoury finish.

Roagna

A cult estate for purists. Roagna is known for long macerations, wild-yeast fermentations, and unhurried aging in large casks. The wines are transparent, earthy, and layered, showing Nebbiolo at its most soulful and terroir-driven. They age slowly and reward drinkers who appreciate nuance, depth, and authenticity.
