About this wine

Montefico is one of Barbaresco’s most structured crus, and Roagna’s Vecchie Viti bottling from 2011 comes from very old vines and sees extended maturation before release. The wine opens slowly with notes of dried cherries, figs, leather and tobacco, evolving towards herbs, undergrowth and iron. On the palate it’s compact and multi-layered, with tightly woven tannins, bright acidity and a long, savoury finish. This is a serious, old-school Barbaresco that benefits from a long decant or further cellaring.

Tasting Note

Falstaff describes a delicate nose of leather, dried fruit and herbs, then a firm, tightly knit palate with grippy tannins, great depth and a very long, savoury finish.

In the glass

Ruby-garnet with pronounced brick at the rim.

In the nose

Dried cherry, fig, leather, tobacco, underbrush and subtle iron/stone.

On the palate

Savory red fruit, dried herbs and spice with firm, gripping tannins and vibrant acidity.

Roagna

A cult estate for purists. Roagna is known for long macerations, wild-yeast fermentations, and unhurried aging in large casks. The wines are transparent, earthy, and layered, showing Nebbiolo at its most soulful and terroir-driven. They age slowly and reward drinkers who appreciate nuance, depth, and authenticity.
