About this wine

La Serra is a high, breezy site that often gives the most vertical Barolo in the Voerzio range. The 2019 shows bright red fruits, roses, citrus and mineral notes, with a taut, focused palate. Tannins are fine but plenty, and the wine carries a strong sense of energy and length. It’s a Barolo for purists and for long-term cellaring.

Tasting Note

James Suckling reports a very finely etched 2019 La Serra with vivid red fruit and floral aromas.

In the glass

Medium garnet, slightly lighter than Fossati.

In the nose

Red cherry, rose petals, orange peel and chalky mineral notes.

On the palate

Medium+ body, very linear and vertical, fine-grained tannins and long, saline finish.

Roberto Voerzio

Roberto Voerzio is one of Barolo’s most influential modernists, famed for extreme low yields and meticulous vineyard work. The wines are intensely concentrated yet surprisingly refined, with glossy fruit, fine-grained tannins and impressive purity. His Baroli from crus like Brunate, La Serra and Rocche dell’Annunziata have become cult references for opulent, collectible Nebbiolo.
