About this wine

Cirsión is produced only in top years from specific vines within Roda’s vineyards whose grapes achieve exceptional phenolic ripeness. The selection is so strict that yields are tiny. Fermentation is in oak vats with indigenous yeasts, and ageing is in top-quality French barriques; the proportion of new oak is higher than for the reservas, though the aim is integration, not dominance. The 2021 vintage has been widely praised for its balance and precision: very concentrated but not heavy, with layered black and blue fruits, floral notes, spice and a profound mineral backbone.

Tasting Note

Leading critics describe the 2021 Cirsión as opulent yet lifted, packed with black cherry and blueberry fruit, violets, liquorice and fine oak spice, with seamless tannins and a very long, polished, graphite-tinged finish.

In the glass

Opaque, inky ruby-purple.

In the nose

Intense black cherry and blueberry, violets, liquorice, espresso, fine cedar and a strong mineral/graphite impression.

On the palate

Full-bodied and velvety, with layered dark fruit, floral and spice complexity, vibrant acidity and ultra-fine tannins leading to an extremely long, polished finish.

Roda

Bodegas Roda in Rioja and its Ribera del Duero arm Corimbo focus on Tempranillo-based wines that are modern yet respectful of terroir. Old vines, precise oak work and a clean, fruit-forward style result in reds that are deep but not heavy. They’re known for clarity of fruit, fine tannins and a savoury, food-friendly profile.
