About this wine

Roda I Reserva is sourced from some of the estate’s best old vines on poorer soils, focusing on Tempranillo with a touch of Graciano. Fermentation again takes place in French oak vats with indigenous yeasts, followed by around 16–18 months in French barriques and long bottle ageing. The 2020 shows deeper black fruit, more pronounced graphite and mineral notes, and firmer structure compared with the straight Roda. It is built for mid- to long-term ageing and is often compared to modern, high-class Bordeaux in its precision and polish.

Tasting Note

Recent reviews describe a concentrated yet elegant wine with blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, hints of dark chocolate and espresso, fine spice, fresh acidity and long, chalky, ageworthy tannins.

In the glass

Dark ruby-purple with high concentration.

In the nose

Blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, graphite, cedar, cocoa and subtle dried herbs.

On the palate

Full-bodied and structured, with layered dark fruit, spice and mineral notes, lively acidity and firm but very fine, ageworthy tannins.

Roda

Bodegas Roda in Rioja and its Ribera del Duero arm Corimbo focus on Tempranillo-based wines that are modern yet respectful of terroir. Old vines, precise oak work and a clean, fruit-forward style result in reds that are deep but not heavy. They’re known for clarity of fruit, fine tannins and a savoury, food-friendly profile.
