About this wine

Skerpioen comes from low-yielding bush vines just a few hundred metres from the Atlantic, on chalky, sea-sprayed soils. The 2024 shows piercing citrus, green apple and white flowers, with hints of kelp, crushed shell and subtle spice. On the palate it’s tensile and vertical rather than broad, with high acidity, a chalky texture and a bone-dry, mouth-watering finish. It’s one of the Cape’s most distinctive terroir whites.

Tasting Note

Aromatic profile of lime zest, green apple and sea breeze, with notes of fennel, chamomile and crushed stones; the palate is ultra-salty, tightly coiled and very long.

In the glass

Very pale straw with green tints.

In the nose

Lime, green apple, sea spray, chalk, wild herbs.

On the palate

Rapier-like acidity; citrus and orchard fruit with intense salinity and a long, mineral, bone-dry finish.

Sadie Family

Eben Sadie’s wines helped redefine the Swartland, focusing on old vines, dry farming and field blends. His whites and reds are subtle, textural and incredibly detailed, often from forgotten varieties and marginal sites. The philosophy is low-intervention and terroir-first, producing some of the Cape’s most sought-after, nuanced bottles.
