About this wine

Skurfberg is sourced from dry-farmed, old-vine Chenin perched on the Skurfberg mountain, on decomposed sandstone and red earth. The 2024 shows ripe citrus, nectarine and yellow apple layered with honeycomb, dried fynbos and a flinty reduction. The palate is concentrated and waxy but held in taut balance by sizzling acidity and saline grip, finishing very long and mouth-coating. It’s one of South Africa’s great age-worthy whites.

Tasting Note

Ripe lemon and tangerine, white stone fruit and wild herbs over a smoky, flinty core; dense but precise in the mouth, with chalky texture and a savoury, saline, endless finish.

Citrus oil, peach skin, honeycomb, crushed rock and gentle smoke.

On the palate

Waxy, dense fruit cut by electrifying acidity and a long, salty, mineral tail.

His whites and reds are subtle, textural and incredibly detailed, often from forgotten varieties and marginal sites. The philosophy is low-intervention and terroir-first, producing some of the Cape’s most sought-after, nuanced bottles.
