About this wine

Soldaat comes from very old bush-vine Grenache planted at around 700 m on decomposed sandstone in Piekenierskloof. The 2024 vintage gives translucent red fruit – wild strawberry, red cherry and pomegranate – alongside dried roses, blood orange and garrigue notes. The palate is light on its feet but not light in flavour, with powder-fine tannins and a long, sapid finish.

Fragrant red berries, rose petals and orange zest, with hints of white pepper and herbs; silky and juicy in the mouth, with delicate tannins and a mouth-watering, stony finish.

In the glass

Light, translucent ruby.

In the nose

Strawberry, red cherry, rose, orange peel, white pepper.

On the palate

Silky and lifted; pure red fruit, savoury herbs and fine, chalky tannins.

Sadie Family

Eben Sadie’s wines helped redefine the Swartland, focusing on old vines, dry farming and field blends. His whites and reds are subtle, textural and incredibly detailed, often from forgotten varieties and marginal sites. The philosophy is low-intervention and terroir-first, producing some of the Cape’s most sought-after, nuanced bottles.
