About this wine

Poggio di Sotto is renowned for its old vines, high elevation and very long aging in large botti. The 2011 Brunello offers soaring aromatics of sour cherry, orange peel, dried rose, tea leaf and herbs, with subtle earthy and balsamic notes. On the palate it’s fine-boned but intense, with vibrant acidity, powdery tannins and a very long, nuanced finish. A classic for lovers of Burgundian-textured Sangiovese.

Tasting Note

Major critics regularly emphasise the wine’s lifted sour cherry and floral profile, delicate yet persistent structure and remarkable aromatic complexity for the vintage.

In the glass

Luminous, relatively pale ruby with a garnet rim.

In the nose

Sour cherry, blood orange, dried rose, tea leaf, herbs and subtle balsamic/earth.

On the palate

Elegant and vertical, with tangy red fruit, very fine tannins and a long, perfumed, savory finish.

Poggio di Sotto

One of Montalcino’s great artisanal estates. Poggio di Sotto produces ethereal, perfumed, and deeply detailed Brunello through long macerations, old casks, and low yields. The wines are graceful, complex, and built for long aging. A reference point for pure, traditional Sangiovese.
