About this wine

Syrah Vieilles Vignes comes from old organic vines high above Ampuis, just outside the Côte-Rôtie boundary, on sandy mica-schist soils. The wine has a deep purple colour and an inviting nose of wild blackcurrant, strawberry, white pepper and liquorice. On the palate, the 2023 release (with the same élévage expected for 2024) shows vivid acidity, supple but straight tannins and a long, liquorice-driven finish, making it both hedonistic and food-friendly. Extended barrel ageing in older 228-L and 600-L vessels adds polish without overt oak flavour, giving a northern Rhône Syrah that over-performs its humble IGP designation and pairs brilliantly with charcuterie, grilled meats and modern comfort food.

Tasting Note

A critic escribes the 2023 Syrah Vieilles Vignes as an intense purple wine with aromas of wild cassis, strawberry, white pepper and candied liquorice, a lively, juicy attack, supple tannins and a very liquorice-toned, pleasure-driven finish.

In the glass

Intense, dark purple with a bright, glossy rim.

In the nose

Gourmand blackcurrant and wild strawberry, white pepper and sweet liquorice.

On the palate

Lively and juicy with vivid acidity, supple but straight tannins and a long, liquorice-driven, savoury finish.

Domaine Clos de la Bonnette

A small, committed estate working steep terraces in Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie. Domaine Clos de la Bonnette farms organically and vinifies with restraint to preserve fruit purity and site character. Viognier shows freshness and texture without heaviness; Syrah is floral, supple, and mineral. Authentic, artisanal Rhône with real finesse.
