About this wine

Coste di Rose is a relatively new MGA near Bricco delle Viole, with sandy soils that give a fragrant, silky style of Barolo. In 2019, G.D. Vajra crafts a wine with a darker core of cherry and blackberry than Bricco delle Viole, layered with roses, dried herbs and dusty earthy notes. The palate is medium-bodied but intense, with polished tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury, mineral-driven finish. It’s both highly drinkable and seriously age-worthy, and has quickly become one of the estate’s star bottlings.

Tasting Note

Wine Advocate describes a darker fruit profile than Vajra’s other Barolo, with cherry, blackberry and earthy tones, framed by refined tannins and freshness. JR notes complex cherry fruit, floral lift and a finely tuned, long, tightly coiled palate that will unfurl beautifully with time.

In the glass

Mid-garnet with a bright rim.

In the nose

On the palate

Elegant yet intense, with supple dark fruit, lively acidity, fine tannins and a long, savoury, mineral finish.

G.D. Vajra

A benchmark for purity and elegance. G.D. Vajra farms organically at high altitudes, crafting Nebbiolo with bright fruit, fine tannins, and classical structure. Their Barolo balances charm and depth, while the broader range, from Riesling to Freisa, shows clarity and care. This is an estate that delivers honest, articulate wines across all levels.
