About this wine

Alión is produced separately from Vega Sicilia but shares the same obsession with detail, using 100% Tempranillo from estate and contracted vineyards in top Ribera villages. The 2013 shows ripe black fruit, fruit-cake richness and dark savoury notes, with baking spices and a light floral lift. The palate is full-bodied yet cool and composed, with velvety but firm tannins and a long, spicy, savoury finish that recalls top modern Bordeaux. It’s entering a beautiful drinking window but has plenty of life ahead.

Tasting Note

James Suckling & Jancis Robinson: dark berry and dried-fruit aromas with chocolate, coffee and spice; full-bodied, very fine and polished, with firm tannins and a long, savoury, floral-tinged finish.

In the glass

Blackish crimson with an inky core.

In the nose

Ripe black fruits, fruit cake, cocoa and coffee with baking spice, earth and a light floral top note.

On the palate

Full-bodied, concentrated yet cool, with sweet black fruit, firm but velvety tannins, fresh acidity and a long, spicy, savoury finish.

Vega Sicilia

Vega Sicilia is Spain’s most legendary estate, with Único and Valbuena among the world’s great age-worthy reds. Old vines, long aging in a combination of different woods and a unique blend of Tempranillo and Bordeaux varieties create wines of immense depth and complexity. Despite their power, they are defined by elegance, balance and an almost timeless aura.
