About this wine

Stefano Zoli farms less than one hectare of 55-year-old Verdicchio vines on chalk-limestone soils at around 430 metres in the Matelica valley. Grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in a mix of stainless steel and concrete, then kept on fine lees for around five months before bottling in late spring, with minimal sulphur and copper use in the vineyard. The resulting wine is extremely pale and crystalline, with aromas of pear, green and red apple skin, lime, wild herbs and a distinct slatey minerality. On the palate it’s zippy and taut, with tangy green pear and citrus fruit carried by crisp acidity, wet-steel minerality and a very dry, snappy finish – a pure, linear expression of Verdicchio di Matelica.
