About this wine

Barolo Castiglione is Vietti’s “flagship” blend, sourced from multiple MGAs in Castiglione Falletto, Monforte, Barolo and Novello. In 2019 it shows seductive notes of plum, red and black cherry and rose petal, over hints of tobacco and earth. Fermentation in steel with long maceration, followed by around 30 months in large casks and barriques, yields a wine with both power and finesse: concentrated fruit, firm yet polished tannins and vibrant acidity. It’s approachable with a long decant but will reward extended cellaring.

Tasting Note

Monica Larner describes the 2019 Castiglione as a layered, generous Barolo that reflects the quality of the vintage more than any single site, with ripe fruit, fine tannins and excellent balance.

In the glass

Deep ruby-garnet with good concentration.

In the nose

Plum, red and black cherry, rose petal, tobacco, earth and subtle spice.

On the palate

Rich but fresh, with juicy dark cherry, savoury notes, firm tannins and a long, structured finish.

Vietti

One of Piemonte’s most respected and versatile producers. Vietti combines deep vineyard knowledge with careful winemaking, producing benchmark Barolo and Barbaresco as well as standout Barberas. Their crus balance structure, perfume, and length, while oak is handled with restraint. The estate’s consistency, craft, and sense of place make it a dependable reference across the region.

Vinification

Grapes from multiple MGAs are fermented separately in stainless steel with 3–4 weeks’ maceration, malolactic takes place in wood, and the wine ages roughly 24–30 months in a mix of large Slavonian casks and French barriques before blending and bottling.
