About this wine

Vietti’s Lazzarito comes from old vines in one of Serralunga’s most renowned MGAs, producing some of the most structured wines in the Vietti range. The 2009 vintage delivers a complex nose of red rose, violet, black fruit, plum, cassis, leather, tar and licorice. On the palate it is full-bodied and muscular, yet not heavy, with lively tannic “crispness” and a sense of energy that carries through the long finish. This is a serious cellar Barolo, entering a beautiful drinking window but with many years ahead.

Tasting Note

Monica Larner writes that the 2009 Lazzarito shows subdued red-rose and violet notes that grow with air, followed by black fruit, plum, cassis, leather, tar and licorice, calling it an “absolute, drop-dead stunner” with lively tannic bite and great importance on the palate.

In the glass

Intense garnet with notable brick at the rim.

In the nose

Red rose and violet, black cherry, plum, cassis, leather, tar and licorice.

On the palate

Concentrated dark fruit, savoury spice and mineral tones with crisp, assertive tannins and long, powerful finish.

Vietti

One of Piemonte’s most respected and versatile producers. Vietti combines deep vineyard knowledge with careful winemaking, producing benchmark Barolo and Barbaresco as well as standout Barberas. Their crus balance structure, perfume, and length, while oak is handled with restraint. The estate’s consistency, craft, and sense of place make it a dependable reference across the region.
