About this wine

Made mainly from younger Garnacha vines around the village of El Real de San Vicente, El Mentridano is conceived as a slightly more approachable counterpart to Las Uvas de la Ira. The grapes ferment with native yeasts, and the wine is raised predominantly in concrete and large, used barrels, emphasising purity of fruit over oak influence. The 2022 vintage offers crunchy red berries, garrigue, pepper and a subtle, smoky mineral note. It’s a classic “bistro Gredos” style with more depth and length than its price suggests.

The Wine Advocate highlights El Mentridano 2022 for its vibrant red fruit, herbal nuances and fine, slightly rustic tannins, calling it a characterful and very drinkable introduction to the Vitícola Mentridana style.

In the glass

Bright ruby with moderate depth.

Red cherry, raspberry, dried thyme and a hint of smoke and crushed stone.

Supple and medium-bodied, with juicy red fruit, lightly grippy tannins and a savoury, earthy finish.

Vitícola Mentridana

Vitícola Mentridana is Daniel Landi’s project for old-vine Garnacha in and around El Real de San Vicente, in the Sierra de Gredos. Vines up to 70+ years old on granite and sand are farmed sustainably and vinified gently, often with whole clusters, in large foudres and concrete. Wines like Las Uvas de la Ira are lifted, savoury and finely tannic – a far cry from heavy Garnacha stereotypes.
