About this wine

Coming from multiple old-vine Garnacha parcels around El Real de San Vicente on decomposed granite, Las Uvas de la Ira (“The Grapes of Wrath”) showcases the region’s balance between Mediterranean sun and mountain freshness. Fermented with native yeasts, usually with some whole clusters, the wine is matured about a year in large, neutral foudres and barrels, avoiding overt oak. The 2022 shows translucent colour, bright red and blue fruits, Mediterranean herbs and savoury, ferrous notes. It’s more structured than its pale colour suggests and built to age 5–8 years easily.

Tasting Note

The Wine Advocate describes 2022 Las Uvas de la Ira as a fragrant, medium-bodied Garnacha with red cherries, thyme and pepper, very fine tannins and a chalk-dust finish, slightly tighter and fresher than previous warm-year releases.

In the glass

Light ruby with a bright, youthful rim.

In the nose

Red cherry, pomegranate, dried herbs and white pepper over a stony backdrop.

On the palate

Fresh and medium-bodied, with lively red fruit, powdery tannins and a long, mineral, slightly savoury finish.

Vitícola Mentridana

Vitícola Mentridana is Daniel Landi’s project for old-vine Garnacha in and around El Real de San Vicente, in the Sierra de Gredos. Vines up to 70+ years old on granite and sand are farmed sustainably and vinified gently, often with whole clusters, in large foudres and concrete. Wines like Las Uvas de la Ira are lifted, savoury and finely tannic – a far cry from heavy Garnacha stereotypes.
